Thanks for the info. First of all an usb stick is way to slow to run windows from it. I don't want to install on a 30 day trial and then have to pay for it after the 30 days. Is the Windows Update Service actually needed for product activation? click site
I don't see any reason for immediate concern. Hopefully it'll activate with no issues when the update is done. I tried a bunch of times last night, then again this morning. I'd bet their activation server is just getting slammed.
