Dell Inspiron N5030. Black Screen And Flashing Cursor At Start.
i have tried last good configuration, restore, repair, either with the built-in recovery (by pressing F8) or by a bootable recovery disk. the fastest way is = ctrl+alt delete,start task manager, new task, type, explorer.exe and voila. Then, the issue occurs again on Friday 8th Jan. It boots to a Windows Splash Screen and then black screen with cursor. But now with Vista… argg…. i too am stuck up with the same problem here.. just with a bit of patience, no last good config, no startup CDROM.

I have to manually turn off. This is my fault because I downloaded a program off the internet and opened it and my computer gave me the blue screen of death and then shut off. I personally have worked on systems for weeks trying to fix black screen issues and have failed. my review here but i didn't risk trying to shut down and boot again so I did an upgrade right then and there.

I have just researched the problem (that's how I stumbled upon your question); there are several options to solve it. My computer boots up with the Dell logo, then at the top right it say press either f12 or f2. Same exact problem - black screen, blinking cursor, no response.
